A Rockford woman has pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges after admitting she fraudulently obtained over $2 million in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance benefits by using the personal information of other individuals, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Carissa Jordan, 46, pleaded guilty to wire fraud Wednesday in federal court in Rockford.
According to the plea deal, Jordan used numerous people’s information to make fake applications to a federally sponsored unemployment programme established during the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to authorities, Jordan acquired debit cards filled with unemployment payments and used them for personal gain.
Jordan faces a maximum term of 20 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. U.S. District Judge Iain D. Johnston set the sentence date for March 31, 2027.
