A teen was detained in Orlando after shooting a victim during a physical altercation.
The Orlando Police Department arrested Justin Flores Herrera, 17, in connection with the shooting at 2742 E. Colonial Drive.
According to OPD, the victim in this case was working in the neighborhood when Herrera approached him and started ranting at him while displaying a firearm. The victim attempted to get away from Herrera, who continued to approach him and punch him, resulting in a violent struggle.
During the dispute, Herrera fired three rounds at the victim before fleeing the area. The person was sent to a local hospital in stable condition, according to OPD.
During the local law enforcement inquiry, police uncovered several leads that led to Herrera’s identification. Herrera later gave authorities with information on the whereabouts of the pistol suspected to have been used in the incident. The firearm was retrieved.
According to the Orlando Police Department, Justin Herrera was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, and minor possession of a firearm.
