Man arrested in Ohio for trying to buy 50,000 stamps using a fraudulent check

A New York man was indicted by a grand jury after police received a call from an Ohio post office that an individual had attempted to buy 50,000 stamps using a counterfeit check.

Christopher R. Ellis, 24, was indicted by a grand jury on one count of attempted grand theft and two counts of forgery, according to the Geauga County Prosecutors Office’s official Facebook page.

Man attempts to buy 50,000 stamps

On August 19, Chardon Police were summoned to an Ohio post office after receiving a report of a strange individual attempting to acquire 50,000 stamps.

The postmaster issued a notice about the man, later identified as Christopher Ellis, who purchased $40,000 in stamps from three Ohio post offices using counterfeit checks.

A phony Ohio identity card and a fake check were discovered following a Chardon Police Department investigation.

Christopher Ellis is now being held in a Geauga County jail and was arraigned on September 29, according to the Geauga County Prosecutors Office.
