A 24-year-old Florida woman stands accused of meeting a man through the Tinder dating platform, stealing his $37,000 Rolex watch following their encounter, and subsequently blocking his phone number after departing his upscale Miami apartment.
Alexia Jocelyn Flores faces charges of grand theft exceeding $20,000 but falling below $100,000.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, the victim contacted police at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday to report that a woman had stolen two watches from his residence.
The man resides at an apartment complex located in the 1100 block of Brickell Bay Drive in Miami. He informed investigators that he met a woman named Alexia through Tinder and took her to dinner, the affidavit states. The victim reported that they subsequently proceeded to his apartment, where they consumed several drinks together.
The man remained seated on the living room couch while the woman dressed in the bedroom and prepared to leave, the affidavit indicates. He told investigators that he escorted her to the elevator, where they “kissed goodbye,” before Flores departed in an Uber that the victim had paid for.
Upon returning to his apartment, the man discovered that two watches had vanished from his nightstand, police reported. He attempted to contact the woman by phone, but she had blocked his number, according to the affidavit.
The following day, law enforcement officials conducted a six-person photo lineup, and the victim positively identified Flores as the perpetrator. He also presented authorities with the purchase receipt to substantiate his ownership of the $37,000 Rolex.
Police apprehended Flores on Wednesday. After receiving her Miranda rights, she acknowledged meeting the victim through Tinder and confirmed that they had been at his apartment, though she denied stealing the watches.
She stated that she believed someone had drugged her and “could not recall what happened afterward.” Flores had not filed a separate report with police regarding the alleged drugging incident, the affidavit noted.
Authorities arrested Flores and transported her to the Miami-Dade County Jail, where she remains incarcerated in lieu of a $7,500 bond. She has entered a plea of not guilty. Her next scheduled court appearance was not immediately available.
