A Florida man wanted on a child sex abuse charge was apprehended Thursday evening in West Virginia after a multistate manhunt, according to federal officials.
The United States Marshals Service arrested Alexander Kyle Nichols, 37, of Bradenton, Florida, at a hotel in Dunbar. According to investigators, Nichols fled Florida and was traveling under a false name to avoid capture.
According to a news release from the US Marshals Service, Nichols is accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl. He has also been accused of breaking the requirements of a Florida court-ordered drug treatment.
After being arrested, Nichols appeared before a Kanawha County magistrate for an initial arraignment. He is now being jailed at the South Central Regional Jail in Charleston, West Virginia, as he awaits extradition to Florida.
The capture is the second time in recent weeks that federal agents have apprehended a high-profile Florida fugitive in the area. Last month, the US Marshals Service captured a Florida murder suspect in Dunbar.
