A man was apprehended following a SWAT standoff in Logan Square that began on Monday and lasted 17 hours.
According to Chicago police, at about 11:43 a.m. on Monday, officers from the 14th district responded to the 3400 block of West Wrightwood to conduct a welfare check following complaints of an altercation between a 75-year-old woman and a man of unknown age whom she knew.
According to CPD, when police arrived, the man pointed a firearm at them and then barricaded himself inside a home.
A SWAT unit was dispatched to the scene. During the incident, authorities stated the suspect fired his revolver several times. Two officers were wounded by bullet fragments and sustained minor injuries. A ballistic shield was also struck by gunfire.
The incident concluded shortly before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, when the suspect was apprehended. He was then brought to St. Mary’s Hospital for unknown injuries.
The woman was also taken to St. Mary’s for observation and has since been discharged.
No other injuries were reported. Police reported that multiple guns were seized at the location.
The investigation into the incident is underway.
