A Lexington Park man was charged after police claimed that LEGO sets and other products were stolen from a Waldorf Target in two separate instances in June.
James Daniel Seifert, 33, of Lexington Park, has been charged with two counts of theft from $1,500 to under $25,000 and one count of theft scheme from $1,500 to under $25,000.
The allegations arise from thefts reported on June 14 and 19, 2026, at Target, located at 3300 Western Parkway in Waldorf.
According to the charging paperwork, the theft occurred on June 19 and was reported the following day. According to investigators, a suspect arrived at the store around 5:25 p.m. in a silver Toyota passenger car, entered wearing a neon yellow shirt, black pants, black boots, a black face mask, and a black baseball-style hat, and proceeded to the LEGO section.
The defendant loaded many LEGO kits into a shopping cart and attempted to leave the business without paying, according to charging documents. A Target asset protection staffer attempted to stop him and pull the cart away, but the suspect retracted the cart and fled the store with stolen items.
During the scuffle, one LEGO set dropped from the cart, but the suspect took six, according to detectives. The stolen items were valued at $1,259.94.
According to the charging paperwork, the same suspect was apparently linked to a theft on June 14 at the same Target. In that occasion, the suspect allegedly entered the store shortly before closing time, walked to the LEGO aisle, and purchased seven LEGO kits, a HyperX Cloud Alpha gaming headset, and a gray Goodfellow & Company hoodie.
According to charging documents, the defendant fled in a silver Toyota passenger car toward St. Patrick’s Drive after failing to pay. The stolen property in that instance was worth $1,998.32.
Investigators identified the vehicle used in both crimes as a 2012 to 2014 silver Toyota Camry with a Maryland license plate.
According to charging filings, state authorities eventually connected the Waldorf Target thefts to a theft reported at Walmart in California, Maryland, on June 25. A still photograph from that event looked to indicate the same culprit, and asset protection officers suspected Seifert based on previous thefts at the store.
Investigators also claimed that Seifert had been named as a suspect or charged in a number of thefts from St. Mary’s County businesses between March and June 2026, including those involving LEGO kits, playing cards, apparel, and household items.
On July 1, investigators visited Seifert’s claimed address in Lexington Park and discovered a 2012 silver Toyota Camry in the driveway. On July 3, members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office carried out a search and seizure warrant at the home.
During the search, clothes allegedly worn by Seifert during both Waldorf Target crimes was found and retrieved, according to criminal documents.
A criminal summons was issued on July 8, 2026. A preliminary inquiry is scheduled on August 31, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
