The man charged with fatally shooting another man at a McDonald’s in south Toledo last year was declared not guilty due to insanity and will be committed to a psychiatric hospital for the rest of his life.
Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Lori Olender ruled in 26-year-old Kemarri Anderson’s case on Thursday, declaring him “a mentally ill person subject to hospitalization or institutionalization by court order” and committing him to Northwest Ohio Behavioral Center.
Anderson was arrested in May of last year for the homicide of Brandon Abbott, 44, who was discovered dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Anderson was indicted on aggravated murder charges later that summer and entered a not guilty by reason of insanity plea in the fall of 2025, with a bench trial scheduled for June 2026.
Anderson’s punishment is similar to the highest jail sentence he might have received if convicted of aggravated murder, according to his court record.
