A 37-year-old Marion County man has been accused of throwing hot coffee at his girlfriend, choking her, then fleeing the scene in her Jeep Cherokee.
The incident happened on Sunday, June 28, while the female victim and her boyfriend, Michael AJ Gonzalez, were driving to make a delivery, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim informed MCSO investigators that Gonzalez became agitated after a verbal confrontation and threw hot coffee on her stomach and legs. When she requested him to stop, Gonzalez reportedly became agitated, seizing her head and arm before grabbing her neck and restricting her.
Deputies later discovered the woman had redness on her neck and coffee stains on her clothes.
When Gonzalez and the victim arrived at a Silver Springs residence to complete the delivery, he allegedly continued to be abusive.
The victim requested a witness on the property to notify law authorities. According to the report, the witness saw the victim throw Gonzalez’s items out of her Jeep, and a black pistol allegedly fell out.
Gonzalez then apparently gathered the goods, including the weapon, before entering the victim’s Jeep and driving away. The victim stated that she purchased the vehicle before meeting Gonzalez, and that he “does not have any ownership of it,” according to the report.
The woman later gave deputies with live security camera footage of Gonzalez at her home, moving goods into his own Lincoln automobile.
Deputies quickly discovered Gonzalez’s Lincoln and executed a traffic stop. Gonzalez allegedly stated that the victim attacked him after being read of his Miranda rights, and that she urged him to take her vehicle before police officials arrived at the Silver Springs home.
During the post-Miranda interrogation, Gonzalez allegedly confirmed that weapons were in his Lincoln. During an inside search of the vehicle, deputies allegedly discovered a 12-gauge shotgun, two Glock 19 handguns, and hundreds of rounds of various ammunition.
A criminal history check on Gonzalez revealed that he was previously convicted of carrying a concealed firearm in Highlands County in August 2011, which is a felony.
Gonzalez was arrested and sent to Marion County Jail, where he remains in detention. His bond has been set at $75,000, and he faces felony counts of domestic violence by strangulation, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, and grand theft of a vehicle.
According to jail records, Gonzalez is set to appear in Marion County court on Tuesday, July 28 at 9 a.m.
