An Omaha man was taken into custody Thursday after calling 911 to claim that he had hallucinated and attacked his grandmother with a knife, according to police.
Nyak Nyak, 24, was placed in Douglas County Corrections on charges of first-degree assault and felony use of a deadly weapon.
According to an Omaha Police report, officers were summoned to a home near 30th and Spencer Streets at 5:27 a.m. after a caller stated that “he was having a crisis and seeing things.” He smoked marijuana and used narcotics but can’t remember what they were called.”
The caller was ultimately identified as Nyak, who told dispatchers he thought he had “hurt his girl” and “I don’t know what I just did.” “I am seeing things.”
Nyak’s grandmother was found on the floor of the flat, covered in blood and unconscious, with serious face injury. It appeared Nyak had attempted to cut her throat, and a broken knife was discovered in the bedroom, according to the report.
According to authorities, she was rushed to UNMC and diagnosed with a brain bleed, many facial fractures, and several broken teeth.
In an interview with the police, Nyak asked how his grandma was doing and revealed that he passed out and beat her up.
Nyak went on to inform police that he had smoked a lot of cannabis, hadn’t slept, and felt his grandma had kidnapped his mother, so he “must have followed through with his plan.”
Nyak is set to appear in court on Monday.
