Louisville Metro Police said an officer fatally shot a naked man Saturday night near the Klondike neighborhood.
According to LMPD Deputy Chief Ryan Bates, officers responded shortly before 9:30 p.m. to the 3000 block of Cromarty Way after receiving multiple reports of an assault.
Police said the caller told dispatchers that at least three people had been assaulted and requested emergency medical services.
Officers were later informed that the suspect was running down the roadway without any clothing, police said.
When the officer arrived, a witness directed police to the suspect’s location. Bates said the officer found a naked man sitting in the middle of the street.
According to Bates, the officer repeatedly ordered the suspect to show his hands. The man then stood up and started walking toward the officer.
Police said the officer instructed the man to stop, but he continued advancing. Bates said the officer then opened fire.
Additional officers who responded to the scene provided medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
In accordance with department policy, authorities will release additional details and body camera footage from the shooting within 10 business days.
