2 students charged after gun found at North Carolina high school

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office reported that two students are facing charges after discovering a gun at Jordan High School in Durham on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., the school received a report, according to deputies, that a student might be carrying a pistol on campus. Thereafter, Jordan High School was put under lockdown while school resource officers and deputies looked for the weapon.

The gun was eventually found, according to authorities, and investigators concluded there was no more risk to the public. Around 4 p.m., the lockdown was lifted. According to the sheriff’s office, two teenagers are facing juvenile petitions for allegedly possessing a handgun on school property.

A student detected in possession of a firearm on school property is subject to a 365-day suspension under North Carolina law.

The event occurred a few days after the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability in Durham experienced another lockout due to allegations of a potential weapon on campus. Later, officials stated that no firearm was discovered in that instance.

Jordan High School did not disclose any injuries, and the inquiry is still under progress.
