A man accused of abducting a baby and leading authorities on a multi-state search has now been formally charged.
Brenton Howland was indicted by a Greene County grand jury on charges of kidnapping, abduction, disrupting a public service, endangering children, and domestic violence.
As previously reported, the incident began on April 14 when Howland allegedly drove off after throwing the 22-year-old mother of his child out of his vehicle.
Authorities said the two had been arguing when the mother asked him to pull over east of Xenia.
Deputies said Howland then forced her out of the vehicle—throwing her down hard onto gravel the second time—before grabbing her phone and tossing it into a field.
The woman flagged down a passing driver to call 911.
As he drove south, Howland sent text messages to the child’s mother.
He allegedly told her he was not sorry for what had already happened, but was sorry for what was about to happen.
Police in Kentucky located Howland before he could act on the threats.
