INDIANA — Police said a man is in custody after a hit-and-run crash in Clarksville led to a major drug bust.
The Clarksville Police Department reported that officers responded just after midnight Wednesday to a single-vehicle crash near U.S. 31 and Stansifer Avenue.
When officers arrived, they learned the driver had fled the scene. Police said they checked the vehicle and found loose methamphetamine on the front seats.
Investigators later located the driver, identified as Donovan Smith of Elizabethtown, near the Radisson Hotel.
Authorities said Smith admitted he had fallen asleep while driving, possibly due to drug use. Police also stated that he discarded bags containing drugs and firearms along the roadside while fleeing.
Officials said items recovered during the investigation included about three pounds of methamphetamine, 112 grams of cocaine, 51 grams of crack cocaine, 94 grams of marijuana, and two 9mm handguns with a total of 73 rounds of ammunition.
Smith is being held at the Clark County Jail.
He faces multiple charges, including dealing in methamphetamine, dealing in cocaine, unlawful carry of a handgun, possession of a legend drug, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and leaving the scene of an accident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
