Officials: 65-year-old dies after Columbus fire in hoarder-filled home

A 65-year-old man died after firefighters discovered him near the front door of a home filled with severe hoarding conditions.

Firefighters in Columbus found Terry Dixon at 530 South Ohio Ave. near the front entrance. Crews transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead last night.

Firefighters reported that they encountered extreme hoarding conditions inside the burning house. Neighbors said Dixon was known as a protector in the community.

“I am glad I got to know him. He was a trustworthy person in my neighborhood that made me feel safe and never made me feel uncomfortable in my community,” said Drew Boodie.

Officials said the fire caused heavy damage across all three floors of the home. Crews also rescued several dogs from inside.
