INDEPENDENCE, Kentucky — Police said a man is hospitalized after a shooting in Independence late Monday night, according to Independence Police Chief Brian Ferayorni.
Ferayorni said the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for surgery. In a press release issued early Tuesday morning, police confirmed the man is now in stable condition.
Ferayorni said the shooting occurred around 11:50 p.m. Monday on Amhurst Drive.
Police have taken one man into custody, though Ferayorni did not specify what charges he may face.
Ferayorni also did not provide details on what led up to the shooting, but the press release clarified that reports claiming it stemmed from a home invasion are inaccurate.
“The individuals involved had been together prior to the incident and an altercation occurred on scene resulting in the shooting,” the press release stated.
Ferayorni told a WCPO crew at the scene that the shooting took place inside an apartment.
