PALMER, Tenn. – Authorities in Tennessee are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 50-year-old Bobby Green, who was struck while riding his bicycle Monday night.

Haley Layman, 25, has been arrested in connection with the crash and faces multiple charges. According to a police report, Layman admitted to drinking before the accident and later took her vehicle to another county for repairs in an alleged attempt to cover up the crime.

Green’s daughter, Clara, shared an emotional message to the driver.

“I’ll pray for you. I don’t hate you. I just wish you would have made a different decision that night to not drink and drive,” she said.

Layman did not call 911 following the crash, leaving Green critically injured on the roadside. Clara Green said her father was ultimately comforted by a kind neighbor in his final moments.

“She went and got a flashlight and found him, and she went and got a blanket for him because he said he was cold and sat there and prayed with him,” Clara Green recalled.

Green succumbed to his injuries shortly after being placed in an ambulance.

Authorities say Layman allegedly posted about the accident on social media before her arrest. In one post, she wrote, “Rest in peace Bobby Dan. You’re going to be missed so much,” while also sharing a news release about the crash from the sheriff’s office.

Investigators recovered vehicle debris from the scene, including a headlight fragment and a windshield wiper, which helped them link Layman’s car to the crash.

Clara Green acknowledged her father’s struggles with addiction and homelessness but emphasized that he still deserved compassion.

“I know he wasn’t always the best when he was on that stuff, but when he wasn’t, he was good. He was good, and he didn’t deserve that,” she said.

In honor of her father, she is encouraging those battling addiction to seek help.

“If you are on it, you can get help, so you don’t ever have to be in the situation where you’re homeless and riding a bike to the store because you don’t have a vehicle,” she said.

The Green family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses.
