We hit a home run!

December 10, 2024

A couple of weeks ago, I penned a column about showing people you appreciate them.
This weekend, I saw first-hand how much people enjoy being appreciated for their endeavors.
We unveiled Legends Hall, the Clay County Basketball Museum, at CCHS.  We had a nice crowd of current and former players and fans spanning many generations attending the ceremony.
It was a lot to absorb in such a short amount of time during the event.  One person after another thanked us for creating this venue.
I just walked around and listened to the things they had to say.
They were thankful.  They were appreciative.
Most importantly, we appreciate what you, the players, the coaches, and the fans have contributed to our history and to making Legends Hall come to life.
Without you, none of this would have been possible. We aimed to include as many photos, names, and other information as possible of former players, coaches, and fans.
Your hard work, determination, and sacrifice made Legends Hall a reality.  We put it together, but you gave us the pieces to make this happen.
I encourage everyone to come by and visit what we have created.  It’s a unique venue, unlike any other you will ever see at the high school level.
Not only are we recognizing so many great players and coaches, but we are also creating a venue people from all over Kentucky will want to come and see.
Only a few towns have museums, but none, the size of Manchester, can boast two outstanding venues! The Clay Historical Society’s ‘The Clay We Were Museum’ is a nationally recognized museum and is tabbed as one of the best in the state!
Venues like these are an actual investment in our town. While we can have festivals and holiday events, none have the staying power of a brick-and-mortar venue.
That’s not to diminish any festival or event, but it’s like comparing apples to oranges.
Manchester and Clay County are active. Special events and venues have significantly impacted our history, and soon, a unique venue will be built in downtown Manchester.
Folks, I’ve said this before Our little town and county are changing. People are trying to make a difference in our future. We all must encourage one another and show appreciation for their hard work, as this is truly a historic time in our county’s history.
