Garreith Dewayne Gilbert, age 68, of Oneida, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
He leaves behind two children, Harold Smith & wife Samantha of Manchester, KY, Jessica Thomas & husband Justin of Corbin, KY; five grandchildren, Kylie Thomas, Rylie Thomas, Maggie Mae Thomas, Lyric Smith, Mia Smith; four siblings, Ruby Maggard Barrett of London, KY, Vanessa Gilbert & James Tamboer of Hillsboro, OH, Esther Gilbert of Manchester, KY, Maria Michelle Hensley & husband Rodney of Lily, KY; special friends, Lawrence Whitaker, Dwayne Smith, Robert Napier; plus a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve & Zola Mae Morgan Gilbert; his uncle, Beve Gilbert; and by two nephews, Timothy Meadows, Brandon Maggard.
Garreith left behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories. A retired truck driver and mechanic at the Clay County Garage, Garreith found great joy and pride in a career that kept him connected to the road and his community.
He was a man who wore many hats throughout his life. He not only drove trucks, but also embraced his passion for woodworking, creating timeless pieces with his hands. Garreith loved the tranquility of fishing and could often be found near the water, waiting for the next big catch. He also had a love for cooking, enjoying both preparing meals and watching cooking shows, always eager to try out new recipes in his kitchen.
A lover of Westerns and UK Basketball, Garreith was a loyal fan through and through, sharing his excitement for the games with family and friends. His greatest pride, however, was the time he spent with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. His love for them was boundless, and every moment shared was a treasure.
Garreith also had a love for sports, giving back to his community by coaching Big Creek basketball and various softball teams over the years. His guidance and dedication on the court and field left a lasting impact on the lives of many young athletes.
Garreith will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering work ethic, and deep devotion to his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, especially those lucky enough to call him family.
Funeral services for Garreith Dewayne Gilbert will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with John Pugh, Robert Napier and Jerry McKinley Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Gilbert Cemetery in Oneida, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29, 2024 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
