Police dispel rumor of I-75 shooter sighting
September 17, 2024
Clay County Sheriff Patrick Robinson says they cannot find anything viable to a report that I-75 shooter Joseph Couch was seen in the Fox Hollow area mid-day Tuesday.
"The Kentucky State Police received a call that a woman said she saw Joseph Couch on Fox Hollow," the sheriff said. "We have searched the area and we find no indication he is here."
The Federal Corrections Institute went on a soft-lockdown Tuesday. It was reported earlier this morning that Clay EMS responded to FCI and transported an individual that had been injured in a fight. It is not known if that was the real reason for the lockdown.
Superintendent William Sexton said parents have been calling due to the rumors.
"I assure you, we are keeping our children safe and we have officers at Manchester Elementary and Clay County High School due to this rumor," he said. "Our school resource officers are working with the sheriff's department, KSP and Manchester City Police and we do not see we have a threat."
The sheriff asks that the public please stop spreading the rumor Couch is in the area.
"It is creating undue panic," he said. "We are investigating but this appears to be a false report."
