A Louisville Gas and Electric line technician who died while working on a power line in Oldham County last week was honored by colleagues, friends and family as a devoted husband and loving father.

Kyle Ferree of Corydon, Indiana, was identified by his family. His mother, Mary Ferree, said he adored his family, calling him a wonderful husband and a devoted father to his one- and three-year-old daughters, with another child on the way.

Earlier this week, his colleagues gathered for a final call tribute and procession. During the call, a voice honored Kyle with the words, “He has climbed his last pole … We will take it from here.”

Mary Ferree said Kyle was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors.

He died on Nov. 6 after he was electrocuted while working to reconductor a power line in Oldham County, according to an LG&E spokesperson. He was 26.

Despite the risks, his mother said he loved his work and the brotherhood that came with it.

“It’s definitely a dangerous occupation, but he loved it,” she said. “It’s a calling, and we continue to pray for the safety of all the other linemen and women out there.”

She said she feels supported by the prayers being offered and that her faith is helping her stay strong.

“It’s because he was baptized,” she said. “Kyle was a believer. He was a Christian man, and what keeps me going is knowing I’ll see him again someday.”

Kyle’s work family created a fundraising page on Help a Hero with support from the National Sisterhood United for Journeymen Linemen to help his wife and children.

Cody Wright, Kyle’s friend and co-worker who shared the final call video, said on Facebook that Kyle was more than a colleague — he was a friend and “the kind of man you don’t replace.” He urged people to pray for Kyle’s family and donate if they can.
