LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man is facing charges after allegedly shooting another man during an argument outside a Valley Station liquor store on Saturday night.

According to court records, 29-year-old Matthew Tarrance got into a verbal dispute with another man outside Valley Liquors, located in the 5400 block of Valley Station Road.

Police said the confrontation escalated when the other man threw a cigarette butt onto Tarrance’s car, prompting Tarrance to get out and continue the argument.

Tarrance then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the man twice in the stomach. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said Tarrance drove away after the shooting but later called police, claiming he acted in self-defense.

He was arrested and charged with assault.
