BARDSTOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A man convicted in the murder of Crystal Rogers has filed an appeal with Kentucky’s highest court.

Joseph Lawson, sentenced earlier this month to 25 years for conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with evidence, is taking his case directly to the Kentucky Supreme Court, according to ABC affiliate WHAS 11 News.

His father and co-defendant, Steve Lawson, who received a 17-year sentence, is also appealing, but his case will be heard by the Kentucky Court of Appeals.

Legal experts say both appeals could take years to resolve due to the extensive evidence involved in the Rogers case.
