A 70-year-old Miami man was arrested after a man’s body was discovered folded into a residential trash bin, according to investigators.
According to jail records, Danny Barbee is charged with unauthorized disposal of a human body and tampering with physical evidence.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Local 10 News on Tuesday, Miami police officers and Miami Fire Rescue workers arrived at the area of Northwest 14th Avenue and Northwest 59th Street at 11:11 p.m. Sunday to search for a possible deceased man inside a garbage can.
Officers confirmed that a man was inside, and fire rescue pronounced him dead on the scene.
A witness told police that four males on bicycles approached him while he was sitting outdoors and told him to check a nearby rubbish can because there might be a dead person inside. According to the affidavit, Johnson searched the bin and saw what appeared to be a body before calling the police.
At 11:39 p.m., an officer arrived on the scene and discovered the man lying face down in the garbage, folded. The affidavit states that there were apparent injuries near his left eye and blood on his face.
According to police, surveillance footage from the 1300 block of Northwest 59th Street captured an unidentified man in high-visibility clothing rolling the bin from west to east before walking back the opposite way.
Investigators said they also discovered potential blood droplets in front of and on the property at the 1400 block of Northwest 59th St., as well as wheel tracks leading to the yard.
Police said they had secured a search warrant for the home. According to the complaint, investigators discovered a spent cartridge casing, blood spatter on the living room ceiling, and signs of a bedroom being cleaned down in an apparent attempt to remove or conceal evidence.
The film showed the individual in the high-visibility shirt escaping on a moped after relocating the dumpster, according to the affidavit.
While detectives were still at the house, officers noticed a man dressed similarly and riding a moped nearby. They stopped him and recognized him as Barbee, who was seized and transported to Miami police headquarters for questioning.
The affidavit claims that Barbee was informed of his Miranda rights, waived them, and agreed to meet with detectives. He informed them he went to a home on the 1400 block of Northwest 59th Street to see a woman he had a relationship with, whom he called “Gang Gang.”
Barbee stated that a Hispanic male he did not know approached and inquired whether the victim was present. According to the affidavit, Barbee informed the man he didn’t know, and the man proceeded into the home to find the victim himself.
According to the complaint, Barbee was detained following an investigation and his admissions.
Barbee was being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Tuesday afternoon, with a bond of “to be set.”
