US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials in Texas recently seized over $290,000 in cocaine from a car driven by a US citizen.

According to CBP, agents working at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge at the Laredo Port of Entry on Oct. 23 came across a 2019 Honda Civic driven by a 36-year-old U.S. woman with a 17-year-old Mexican citizen passenger and sent the vehicle for inspection with a non-intrusive scanning device.

Officers discovered 20 packages hidden in the vehicle. The packages included 49.3 pounds of alleged cocaine, worth $290,680.

CBP seized both the cocaine and the car. The driver was apprehended, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents began an investigation.

“Officers at the Laredo Port of Entry consistently demonstrate vigilance in protecting our nation from dangerous narcotics,” said Port Director Albert Flores. “Their dedication to safeguarding our communities remains second to none.”
