19-year-old Gwinnett Co. murder suspect apprehended in Columbia County

An alleged murder suspect from Gwinnett County was apprehended in the CSRA.

Gwinnett County law enforcement told the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office that a murder suspect may be staying at a Columbia County home.

During the inquiry, it was discovered that the suspect vehicle was a red Chevy Cruze.

This car was detected by license plate readers (LPR) last night in Richmond County.

Richmond County deputies discovered and stopped the vehicle, which led them to the suspect, who was staying on the 4000 block of Old Trail Road West.

Columbia County assisted Gwinnett County investigators in obtaining a search warrant for a home on Old Trail Road West.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) executed the search warrant, and the main suspect, 19-year-old Yostin Gomez, was found inside the home.

Authorities stated he was staying at this address while working a construction job in Augusta.

Several others were present at the time, but their background checks revealed nothing, and they were freed.

Gwinnett County investigators transported Gomez to CID for an interview.

He’ll be brought to the Columbia County Detention Center to await extradition. Gwinnett Police Department investigators will issue an arrest warrant for Yostin Gomez’s murder.
