Teen wounded in overnight shooting on South Kerr Avenue

The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) is investigating an overnight shooting on South Kerr Avenue.

According to WPD, police heard many gunshots in the area about 12:54 a.m. on Oct. 7 and discovered a 16-year-old male with gunshot wounds when they arrived.

Officers performed life-saving care until EMS arrived, and the teen was transported to a hospital for treatment.

According to WPD, investigators found that a suspect fired into an SUV from another car and shot the teen. The SUV driver had non-life-threatening injuries.

Overnight, WECT crews observed a large police presence along Cinema Drive. The SUV had a damaged side window, and evidence markers were positioned around it. South Kerr Avenue has been reopened, and the SUV has been removed.

The identities of the victims have not been revealed.
