Police arrested two Lowndes County suspects at a roadblock near the Mississippi Department of Transportation building on Highway 15 early Sunday morning.
Michelle K. Crump drove a gray minivan up to the roadblock around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, and the two were apprehended.
According to Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons, officers found that Crump was inebriated. Crump, 28, of 76 Atkins Road in Steens, was arrested and charged with DUI.
A passenger, Kenneth W. Brown Jr., 46, of 6950 Highway 50 East, Columbus, was also detained and charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence, Lyons reported.
During the traffic check, cops ordered Brown to exit the vehicle after noticing him trying to hide something inside the van.
As the suspect exited the vehicle, Lyons stated that officers discovered a plastic bag containing a clear, crystal-like material subsequently identified as methamphetamine in the seat Brown was sitting in.
