A 71-year-old woman was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle in North Hollywood on Friday night, and police are seeking the public for assistance in locating the person responsible.
The collision took at around 9:35 p.m. near Lankershim Boulevard and Oxnard Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to police, a dark red Ford SUV was heading southbound on Lankershim Boulevard, north of Oxnard Street, when it struck the woman as she crossed Oxnard Street outside of a crosswalk.
After striking her, the driver did a U-turn on Lankershim Boulevard and raced northbound without pausing to identify themselves or give aid, according to investigators.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced the woman deceased on the scene. Her identify has not been disclosed pending notification of her relatives.
Detectives are asking anyone who was driving on Lankershim Boulevard near Oxnard Street at the time of the crash or who saw what happened to come forward.
The city’s Hit-and-Run Reward Program offers a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the driver’s identity, apprehended and convicted, or resolution through civil agreement.
