Florida Couple Apprehended In $382,000 Life Insurance Fraud Scheme Involving Deceased People

A licensed life insurance agent and her husband are facing several felony charges after state investigators discovered a roughly $382,000 life insurance fraud scheme, Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia announced.

On June 26, 2026, investigators from the Department of Financial Services’ Criminal Investigations Division (CID) detained Christine Ann Nunzio and Phillip Salvatore Nunzi. State officials claim the couple obtained bogus life insurance policies through their construction company by faking personnel census information, job histories, enrollment forms, and claims.

According to CID investigators, the policies and claims involved people who had never worked for the business, as well as four deceased individuals.

Christine Nunzio’s father-in-law was among those listed on company documents as non-employees, despite having no verifiable working history with the company. Authorities reported that the operation resulted in the theft of $381,849.

“My office has been relentless in catching criminals that drive up costs for policyholders,” Ingoglia said in a statement. “Insurance fraud affects not only insurance companies but also all honest, hardworking Floridians. I’d want to thank my detectives for putting an end to the Nunzios’ machinations and guaranteeing that their next date night is in court.”

Christine and Phillip Nunzio face the same charges: organized plot to defraud, grand theft, insurance fraud, violating the Florida Money Laundering Act, and unlawful exploitation of a deceased individual’s personal identity information.
