El Paso man sentenced to 5 years in prison for stalking woman he met at gym

An El Paso man was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to stalking a woman for nearly a year, according to court documents acquired by ABC-7 on Thursday.

According to police records, a woman encountered Ivan Alejandro Alvarado in a gym in November 2024. She informed police that he approached her and asked for her phone number so that he might propose a boxing gym.

According to records, the woman declined and suggested they trade information through social media instead. Alvarado informed her he didn’t have any social media accounts and requested for her phone number again.

According to records, the woman felt forced to provide Alvarado her phone number because he was “being pushy and asking continuously.”

According to the records, Alvarado called the woman during her workout and requested a meeting afterward. She declined and felt “uneasy about how insistent” he was.

The woman informed authorities that Alvarado kept phoning and texting her. She claimed she responded in ways that indicated she wasn’t interested in him.

According to documents, the woman informed Alvarado that she did not want to speak with or meet him, but he continued to message her.

Documents show that while out with a companion, the woman received sexually explicit messages from Alvarado. The woman informed police she never asked for images or videos from him and told him she was not interested.

According to papers, the woman informed Alvarado that “she was not that type of girl and hoped he had a good night.”

After that, the woman continued to receive texts, calls, and blocked caller IDs from Alvarado, according to records. She said the no-caller ID calls were from Alvarado, who left voice messages after phoning.

Alvarado attempted to call the woman in December 2024 and left a voice mail when she did not respond, according to records. The woman claimed the voice message sounded like a threat to sexually attack her.

In one case, Alvarado left a message claiming he would pick up the woman, but documents show she never revealed her address with him.

According to documents, the woman felt frightened and scared about seeing Alvarado at the gym, so she changed her membership.

According to papers, in January 2025, she encountered Alvarado on the second floor of her new gym. She reported him to the gym staff and avoided him. Staff later escorted Alvarado and instructed him to leave. According to papers, police summoned him after the interaction and urged him to leave the woman alone.

Throughout the month, the woman claimed Alvarado continued to call her without a caller ID.

Documents show that in November 2025, Alvarado attempted to interact with the woman at the gym. He requested for her assistance and changed his tone “sounding angry” when she declined.

Alvarado yelled at her to “come back” as she attempted to walk away and ignore him, according to records. Inside the premises, she requested assistance from workers as he apparently remained outside “pacing back and forth.”” According to the records, gym workers claimed they couldn’t do anything because Alvarado was outdoors.

According to records, the woman said police she witnessed him try to open a car door that she was concerned he might have mistaken for her own. She had a friend accompany her to her car before leaving the gym.

According to police documents, Alvarado attempted to call the woman 30 and 48 times without a caller ID between November and December 2024. He also left nine voicemails after she blocked calls with no caller ID.

According to court documents, Alvarado was convicted of publishing or threatening to disseminate intimate visual material in 2019. The El Paso District Attorney’s Office told ABC-7 that Alvarado was already on probation for that charge, but it was revoked as a result of his final plea.
