Columbus police announced that a man who was shot last Monday on the east side of town has died and that a teenage boy has been apprehended and charged.
At 3:12 p.m. on Monday, police responded to a shooting incident in the 1000 block of Mount Vernon Avenue. A 47-year-old man was discovered with a gunshot wound and taken to a hospital.
In a Sunday update, authorities named the victim as Timothy Powells, who died on Friday at 10:35 p.m. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for a 17-year-old boy on Saturday, and SWAT officers swiftly took him into custody.
The teen has been charged with aggravated murder and robbery and is presently being housed at the Franklin County Juvenile Intervention Center.
