Pearl River County deputies taken into custody two men from Texas after they were found with suspected drugs and a firearm during a safety checkpoint on Thursday, April 30.
At 11:51 p.m., deputies performed a safety checkpoint on Highway 43 and stopped a car with a strong marijuana stench coming from the inside. The passengers were identified as Charlie Randall, 66, of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Joseph Brooks, 65, of Dallas, Texas.
During the stop, deputies found marijuana, cocaine, oxycodone, and a.25-caliber handgun.
Randall and Brooks were each charged with two felony charges of possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, as well as possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. They were transported to the Lenoir Rowell Criminal Justice Center.
