A Rockford man is facing drug and firearms charges after a “long-term investigation.”
Marcial Arteaga-Carrion, 28, has been charged with manufacturing/delivering more than 5000 grams of cannabis, more than 900 grams of cocaine, and two charges of unauthorized use of a weapon.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says it has received information regarding someone selling cocaine and marijuana in the Rockford region.
During the inquiry, investigators identified Arteaga-Carrion as the culprit.
On Monday, May 11, Winnebago County deputies, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the FBI investigated two Rockford homes: one in the 1800 block of 7th Street and the other in the 800 block of Brooke Road.
Deputies believe they discovered more than 54 kilograms of cocaine (with a “street value” of $2 million, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office), over 7,000 grams of marijuana, two pistols, and more than $167,000 in US currency.
This case highlights the outstanding work and collaboration between our local and federal law enforcement partners. Removing this large quantity of dangerous narcotics from our community has undoubtedly made Winnebago County safer. I am proud of the dedication and professionalism shown not only by our Narcotics Unit, but by the entire Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, whose commitment to protecting our residents is evident every day.
