Strong storms possible Saturday as major weather shift moves in

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A summertime pattern continues today, but it won’t last much longer. A major weekend change will bring needed showers and storms, followed by a frost threat.

Temperatures today will climb to 80–85 degrees across much of Kentucky, with gusty southwest winds and partly sunny skies.

A strong cold front will sweep west to east across the state on Saturday. Showers and storms will develop along and ahead of the front through early Sunday morning before exiting eastern Kentucky. Some storms could turn strong or severe, especially in northeastern parts of the state.

Temperatures will drop sharply from west to east on Saturday as rain moves through. While some areas may reach the 80s early in the day, others will fall into the 40s at the same time.

By Monday morning, patchy frost and temperatures in the 30s are expected.

Monday will bring some sunshine with highs in the 60s, followed by a warm-up into the 70s by Tuesday.
