LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police officers shot and killed a homicide suspect Monday afternoon near a downtown Taco Bell.
According to Deputy Chief Ryan Bates, officers responded around 4:09 p.m. to a report of a recent homicide suspect at the Taco Bell located at South 1st Street and West Broadway.
Police said officers found the suspect sitting alone against the building and approached him.
According to authorities, the suspect then opened fire on officers, prompting multiple officers to return fire. Police said the suspect fell to the ground but refused to drop his weapon, leading officers to fire again.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Louisville Metro Police Department’s Public Integrity Unit is investigating the shooting. Under department policy, additional details and body camera footage will be released within 10 business days.
