The Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of the region as a cold front moves through tonight and into the overnight hours. The watch remains in effect until 1 a.m. ET.

Here are the areas included:

  • Southern Illinois
  • Central and Southern Indiana
  • Northern Kentucky

Watch timing:
Sunday evening through early Monday morning (6:15 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. EDT)

Primary threats include:

  • Scattered large hail, with isolated hail up to 2 inches in diameter
  • Scattered damaging wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph

Summary:
Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this evening near or just north of a southeast-moving front. Unseasonably steep lapse rates combined with strong winds through the atmosphere will support storm development capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.

The watch area extends roughly 60 miles north and south of a line from about 20 miles west of Mount Vernon, Illinois, to 55 miles south of Muncie, Indiana.
